WHAT 2018 DID TO MY EARS

I hate traffic but as long as I have a superb playlist (good internet access and sufficient battery on the phone) on my hand, I am okay
Note: This is not a story about ear surgery (lol) you can keep reading without creep

It wasn't long until I recognized a talk about music is kind of talk I enjoy the most. Ever feel like you're sunk into deep and not wanting to be saved? Ok, that's a bit of exaggeration but yes, that was what it felt like to me every time someone tagged me along a music talk. Now imagine you're sitting at the dining table and there's an empty plate in front of you waiting to be filled with different kind of meals. It could be mashed potato, garlic chicken, roasted carrot, and little greens on your plate. It could be a stack of pancakes with simple syrup. It could be steam rice with beef ribs soup and some rice crackers (that's my plate). Or, it could be empty because you are on diet. And just like food, our music preference could be different each other from time to time. I want to proclaim myself as an avid listener of indie music because nothing beats the burst of excitement when people started to ask me what song I was currently listening to (hmm, does this thing convert me into an attention seeker? lol ok then). Why indie songs? Walking against generally accepted taste is hard but finding a really good song people don't usually listen to is a treasure to me. It's a pride and a joy at the same time. This is a story about songs I really fond of.
A couple of days ago I made a little survey (not proper but still quite a decent one) on my Instagram about everyone's version of 2018's favorite song. Why do I have such concern to know everyone's favorite tune? I don't know. I'm just curious. It all started with everyone posting the same thing on an Instagram story on that day: Spotify Wrapped 2018. Not wanting to be missed out, I followed the stream and get myself my own Spotify Wrapped 2018. Later --of course-- immediately dropped the result on the feed so that everyone would recognize how hipster I was during 2018 (turned out I was more into pop songs rather than indie songs lol) what's on the list.

The point is, it was fun, really really fun to talk (and listen to) people about what songs I/they love the most. So, instead of talking (literally) about songs I love to hear during 2018, I want to share them with you guys thru this writing.

5) The Japanese House - Saw You In A Dream

I found this song on Spotify accidentally (anyhow, I didn't get any exposure of knowing how to build an app, I never knew how its algorithm works, but dear people may you know that Spotify is super super super super good when it comes to helping me digging treasured items. Haven't subscribed its premium service? you better check their site out right now. Now! No, I mean after you finished reading this post haha). This song, defined as a laid-back slice of dreamy-pop, but packs a powerful emotional punch by NME, went straight to the list because its lyrics hit me at certain notes. I was all like "dude, is this song made for me?" It's about someone that's missing from our life but then came into our dreams. What I love the most from its lyric is a reminder of  'All good things come to an end'. I think, so do bad things.

4) Tennis - I Miss That Feeling

Another gem appeared mysteriously on my Spotify recommendation. Find these songs I adore were similar to each other? Well, science said most of us tend to be attracted to people who are similar to ourselves, maybe this is why I listened to similar songs too lol. Although repeatedly dressed up with aesthetically 60's-70's style, Tennis is actually formed in 2010 by a husband-and-wife duo from Colorado, US. Their debut was released in 2011 so they're practically new to the industry. Why I love the song? I like how the tunes made me tap my feet on the floor.

3) Cigarette After Sex - Affection

I ... love this song so so so so sooooooo much. Can't remember exactly when I first discovered the band. Maybe... around 2013 or 2014? I don't know. Anyway, consider I was super lucky because last November I got the chance to watch them live at Neon Lights Festival in Singapore. Came with zero expectation, I never knew their live performance is super-duper great, satisfying, and exceptional! It was raining cat and dog at that time and they're still willing to perform under the rain huhuhu. The show wasn't less admirable eventhough I was standing quite far from the stage to keep myself from getting wet a.k.a ngiuhan a.k.a berteduh. You know, I can't believe they sound exactttttttttly the same with their recording quality. They must've kidding us guys but apparently, they didn't. It's just too good we don't deserve them T_T. Anyhow, I .... (found it necessary to put couple of full stops after the 'I' to reaffirm how loving the song to me lol don't judge) love the song because it soothes my soul better than any Korean-aloe-vera gel can do. Say no more, people.

2) PREP - Cheapest Flight

Call me a pure extrovert because I actually did what most extroverts do: showing people what I currently love (or *insert any other form of adjectives here*) in all social media channels. Losing count on how often I get people to listen to this song either via Instagram DMs or Twitter or Facebook or direct talk hahaha sorry guys I know sometimes I get really annoying. I love the lyrics, the upbeat, the sound of its vocal, and last but not least, the trumpet and flute (idk whether it's sound of the flute or what actually wkwk). The song is ponten 95 to me!

1) Phum Viphurit - Lover Boy

        "Call me lover boy .."

Thanks to Faiz (Reality Club's vocalist/guitarist) as he's the one who introduced me to this song (of course indirectly. Who I am to befriend him?!?!?!?). Calm down, I got reasons to ensure you that the song's worth sitting on the throne. First, Phum's voice is so unique it made me so hard to resist him everytime the song is played, maybe it's because he has this crisp Thai accent. Second, he played amazing guitar tricks. Third, the song made me dance (this is so important). Fourth, Phum is good looking (it's not important but considered as a plus). Fifth, the last and the most important one, this is the only song I played dozens times (not kidding, guys) on continuous repeat in a single day. Thank God my ears weren't damaged *cry a little*. Actually, I still have more reasons.. the list goes on but I'd probably gone too far if I wrote it all here. Conclusion: Thanks Phum, you are hella amazing, your songs are hella amazing. I love you more than I love pizzaaaaa.

Okay, I think I'm gonna wrap everything up here.

Talk to you later!
